This Year's Theme: Unmasking Best Practices

English educators face the challenge of shrinking resources with increased accountability in student success. Gone are the days of teaching without formal reflection on correlating curricula to content area standards or student learning outcomes, all with the goal of transitioning students to college. K-12 instructors saw the paradigm shift first with education reforms in No Child Left Behind, and later, Race to the Top, which precipitated the shift to Common Core. Soon after, universities and colleges joined the conversation that continues today. Thus, the 26th Annual Building Bridges Conference will address the vital role that English faculty play in acting as agents of innovation and First-Year Experience, Basic Skills, Learning Communities, English as a Second Language, Technology in the Classroom, Responding to Papers, Teaching Research, Teaching Reading, Critical Thinking, Grammar/Usage, Learning Disabilities, Coping with Student Attitudes, or any topic related to teaching composition, literature, or ESL.
